Eagle Centennial Anniversary Parade

The Nassau County National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) chapter has invited Suffolk County Council Eagle Scouts to participate in the CENTENNIAL EAGLE PARADE on Saturday, September 8, 2012. The parade is to honor Arthur Eldred, a Scout in the vicinity of Rockville Centre, who was the first member of the Boy Scouts of America to earn the Eagle Scout rank.
Assembly will be at 9:00 AM on September 8 at Parking Field #2, between North Village Avenue and North Centre Avenue off of Randall Avenue, in Rockville Centre. Attire is the Field (Class A) uniform. Should you no longer have a uniform (or one that fits!) business attire with your Eagle Scout ribbon and medallion will suffice.
A contingent from Suffolk County is forming. Please contact Brian McAuliff no later than September 1 using the Eagle Parade Enrollment Form on the Council website if you plan to attend. Transportation arrangements are pending.

This year was an amazing year for donations to the annual Scouting for Food Campaign. The numbers are still being reporting but so far we are up to 80,000 lbs. of food. Many units were recognized on their local patch.com sites for their Good Turn. We are so proud of all our Scouts, Leaders, and Units for helping the community and local food pantries. We are also grateful to King Kullen Grocery Company for their generous donation of 30,000 brown bags. Here are some photos from Pack 64 in Benjamin Tallmadge.
Silver Beaver and Venturing Leadership Award Nominations

The Annual Fellowship Dinner is scheduled for March 29, 2012. It is annual celebration of the Scouting fellowship we share. And the high point of the evening is the Silver Beaver recognition of those individuals who have gone beyond the call of duty in service to Scouting and the community.

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest recognition a local council can confer on a volunteer. Established in 1931, it recognizes individuals who have provided distinguished service to Scouting, youth outside of Scouting and the community. In the 82 years since its inception, there have been 516 Scouters so recognized by Suffolk County Council. Nominations can come from anyone for any Scouter who they feel has contributed exemplary service in these 3 areas.

The Venturing Leadership Award is presented by councils, areas, regions, and the BSA National Council to Venturers and adult leaders who have made exceptional contributions to Venturing and who exemplify the Venturing Code and Venturing Oath.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, January 13, 2012 with the awarding at the Annual Fellowship Dinner on March 29, 2012. Take the time to nominate someone who has distinguished themselves in volunteer service. You are invited to nominate a worthy Scouter. No one receives consideration for the award unless nominated.

Wood Badge Scholarship Fund

The Carl Gullans/Bill Somerville Scholarship fund was initiated in 2011. The funds are used to assist Scouters with financial challenges in participating in a Wood Badge Course being hosted by either Suffolk County or Theodore Roosevelt Councils. Carl was the Course Director/SM for NE-II-121 held in 2002. As a participant, Carl was a Bobwhite on NE-II-72.
Both Carl Gullans and Bill Somerville were great Scouters and served as Wood Badge Course Directors. What better way to honor these two individuals then by enabling ALL Scouters to experience the Wood Badge Experience. If still around today, these two individuals would be the first to contribute to a Wood Badge Scholarship Fund.
We want to ensure that all Scouters have an opportunity to take part in this amazing experience. By making a small or large donation, you will be assisting many in making this opportunity come to fruition.
