James E. West Fellowship Award
James E. West was the first Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America. He served in that position for more than three decades. He exemplified Ralph Waldo Emerson's observation that "an institution is the lengthened shadow of one man." Scouting today is the "lengthened shadow" of more than three decades of the dedicated leadership of Dr. James E. West. Those who are recognized by the James E. West Fellowship Award will cast their own "lengthened shadow" as they help ensure the Scouting legacy for future generations of young people and create the financial stability of the program.
Shinnecock Lodge is looking to recognize those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions, to the Lodge, Council, or Camp in their responsibilities of their position or office, or at-large within the Lodge.
Shinnecock Lodge will be selecting one deserving Scout or Scouter to be honored with the James E. West Award and will be making a $1,000 donation to the Council's endowment fund in the individual's honor.
