Citizenship in the World NYC Hike

This activity is being offered and led by the Council's High Adventure Committee on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Scouts will have the opportunity to earn the Citizenship in the World Merit Badge while hiking Central Park in NYC and visiting the Museum of Natural History. **In order to earn the merit badge Scouts MUST complete the pre-requisites listed below.**
Who: Scouts must be 12 years old and at least Scout Rank
What: An Urban hike of roughly 7 miles in NYC with the opportunity to earn the Citizenship in the World Merit Badge. The cost is $50 per Scout.
When: Saturday, August 16th. Scouts will meet at the Ronkonkima Train Station PROMPTLY at 7am and return at approximately 7:30pm.
Where: Scouts will take the train round trip to Penn Station. While in the City they will visit the Museum of Natural History as well as Central Park.
Important details:
- Scouts must bring a small daypack with water and a bagged lunch as well as their merit badge workbook. The workbook can be downloaded from the resources below.
- Merit badge pre-requisites include requirements #2, #5 and #6.
- All Scouts must arrive to the train station by 7am; we will not be able to wait for late Scouts. They will also need to have the completed Activity Consent Form which can be downloaded below.
- Over the course of the day Scouts will hike over 7 miles; make sure they wear approproate footwear! Comfortable sneakers are best as they will be on pavement.
- Yes, Class A uniforms are required for this event.
