Alison Branco, Ph.D. 

Director of Climate Adaptation, The Nature Conservancy in NY

BIO:

Dr. Alison Branco is the Director of Climate Adaptation for The Nature Conservancy in New York, where she works with communities and governments to plan for and adapt to climate change. Dr. Branco holds degrees from Connecticut College and the University of Connecticut and has work experience on the East Coast of the US and in Western Australia. Most recently, Alison served as Director of the Peconic Estuary Program, Part of EPA’s National Estuary Program. Now with The Nature Conservancy, she leads a statewide team engaging across New York’s diverse floodplains to help build healthy and resilient shoreline communities for the long-term benefit of people and nature.

Since 2014, Dr. Branco has served on the board of directors of the Seatuck Environmental Association and is currently the President of the Board. Alison enjoys supporting Seatuck’s staff and volunteers in Protecting Long Island’s Wildlife and Environment. Alison lives in Brightwaters, NY with her husband and two daughters.

I advise and grow software startups and enterprise brands, focusing on brand identity, customer engagement, and digital strategies. An introduction to Suicide Prevention, what research has found to be the warning signs and the strategies that prevent it.

 

Katie Deitz

Program Manager LIAFSP

Bio:

Katie Deitz is the Programs Manager for the Long Island Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention where she oversees the chapter's educational programing and loss and healing initiatives. She partners with local communities, organizations, and workplaces to bring suicide prevention education to the Long Island community, working to create a culture that is smart about mental health. 

Prior to getting involved with AFSP, Katie earned her Master's degree from Wheelock College in Boston and spent 5 years working as a certified child life specialist at a children's hospital on Long Island, where she provided psychosocial support to children and families undergoing hospitalization. Originally from the Capital Region of New York, she currently resides in Rockaway Beach.

 

Workshop Roundtables

This is a ‘Listen to Lead Conference’ format where participants voice their views on some of today’s most pressing issues facing our youth and future. Select an area of interest and discuss with other leadership minded youth and adults under 30. Make your voice heard!


 

 

Who Should Attend

  • Current and past Scout youth leaders (15-29yrs)
  • Non-Scouts (15-29yrs) who want to help others, their community and world

 

Areas of Focus:

  • The Environment and Global Warming
    • Studies show this is of high concern of millennial parents, and their kids.  Scouting has been green for over 100 years, how can we lead this effort to care for the earth.
  • Social Impact and Diversity
    • Youth experience social issues daily, from bullying to concern for fairness and inclusivity of marginalized communities. Scouting is the ideal program to solve provide support and be the bridge to help solve these issues. 
  • Mental Health
    • Youth suicide and depression are at an all-time high. In the United States (U.S.), suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for youth and young adults between the ages of 10-34. Scouting have saved countless lives by training youth in First Aid. Can programs be developed where Scouts can help those in crises in the same way? 
  • The Digital Divide
    • Today’s youth live a dual life. Their digital world is without parental understanding. There are risks that Scouting's guidelines can help. Is there an opportunity for Scouting to be in the digital space to protect and guide our youth?
