Summer Merit Badge Program - Trailblazer

Trailblazer - Tuesdays- July 15th & 22nd, and July 29th & August 5th  - 2 LOCATIONS - St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 31 Rider Ave., Patchogue, NY 11772 and Old Church Hall, 31 E. Montauk Hwy, Hampton Bays, NY 11946

All merit badges are from 7pm-9pm.

Session 1: July 15th & 22nd

Session 2: July 29th & August 5th

Scouts must attend both classes in the same session, unless a single date is listed.

  • Uniform is required.
  • Pre-registration is required. “No Walk-ins “
  • Scouts must arrive with a Blue Card signed by your Scoutmaster

Scouts need to bring, pencils, paper and any materials required for the merit badge. A merit badge book will be very helpful. A parent / guardian must sign each scout out of every session day.

Session 2:

Citizenship in the Nation (Allan Heid) - July 29th @ Patchogue

Citizenship in the World (Allan Heid)- August 5th  @ Patchogue

Bugling/Music (David Pennise) @ Patchogue

Engineering (John Ragone) @ Patchogue

Crime Prevention / Safety (Al Rodriguez) - July 29 @ Hampton Bays

Traffic Safety (Al Rodriguez) - August 5 @ Hampton Bays

 


 

Pre-Requisites:


Citizenship in the World
3A. Read about a current world issue
7A. Visit the U.S. State Department website (with parent’s permission)
7B. Visit the website of an international news organization. Suggest the BBC (British
Broadcasting Corporation) to view world news issues. (with parent’s permission)

Citizenship in the Community
3A. And meeting of town board, school board, or court
4B. Interview a person from a branch of government on a local issue
7C. Pick a charitable organization outside of Scouting and volunteer 8 hours with them


Citizenship in the Nation
5. Watch the national news or follow main national stories for 5 days in a row. Discuss with counselor.

8. Name Representatives in U.S. Congress (Congressman and both U.S. Senators). Write one
email a letter to one explaining your views on a national issue. Show a copy to your counselor.

 

Music

3a, 3b, or 3c, with the ability to read music and perform an instrument or sing at a basic level.

 

Bugling 

Requirement 6 would need to be completed ahead of time, also requiring an ability to read music and perform the bugle, trumpet, or cornet. 

 

Energy
Prerequisites:  Requirements 4 & 5  Scout should bring his completed audit and notebook 

1st Evening:  Scouts should be prepared to discuss Requirement 1a, 2b, & 8

2nd Evening: Scouts should be prepared to discuss Requirement 7

During the Two Evenings of Session One I will discuss with the Scouts Requirements 2a,   3a,b,c,d,   6a,b,c,d,e

Crime Prevention/Safety

Scouts will conduct surveys between sessions and must attend both sessions to earn these two merit badges.

 

Public Speaking

Scouts must have a 5 minute speech about themselves prepared for delivery to group.
